Ross and Schonder designed the first office and production building for
Magee Plastics Company in the Thorn Hill Industrial Park. The company
eventually moved their headquarters to California with the original site serving
as the Eastern U.S. facility. However, about fourteen years later, the company
decided to consolidate office and manufacturing operations back to
Pennsylvania, which meant a substantial addition to the original building.
The client's building requirements had evolved over the years with the need
for more natural light in the upper level office and conference areas and the
lower level production spaces. The new design scheme met these specific
demands, yet integrated with the former building by redefining the use of the
original masonry trapezoidal walls.
The new building doubled the
size of the former facility with 13,000 square feet of executive offices and
30,000 square feet of high bay production space including a storage mezzanine.
The completed project, which met the client's demanding relocation schedule,
created a new design statement on the site and produced a dramatic corporate
presence for Magee Plastics Company in the Thorn Hill Industrial Park.
