Project Description

Making a Community Impact

Client: Impact Christian Church
Location: Moon Township, Pennsylvania
Size: 49,800 SF Renovation to existing 79,500 SF building

Impact Christian Church purchased the aging Airport Ice Arena with the intent to share this resource with the larger community. Though the 20-year-old structure suffered from years of wear, tear and neglect, the Church saw the potential of changing this sports complex into a multi-use religious and community center.

RSSC Architecture worked closely with Impact Church to generate a Master Plan that addressed their overall vision and call to service. From that Master Plan, a Phase 1 Construction Plan was established. This carefully considered layout not only met their current needs, but also provided a logical path to expansion in the future.

With the original interior consisting of two ice-rinks and several locker rooms, the complex needed to be reimagined to support worship, education, community outreach, family life, sports and leisure. The first rink was converted into an indoor soccer field, a gymnasium, preschool and nursery. The second rink was transformed into an 800-seat auditorium, complete with a video-wall, sound booth and stage, which serves as a place of worship and concert venue and can be expanded to 1,200 seats in the future. Additional amenities include a full-service café, administrative offices, meeting rooms, a renovated lobby and an expanded parking lot to accommodate the additional visitors.

With dynamic and bold use of color and a completely transformed facility, the community quickly forgot the original arena and embraced Impact Christian Church’s vision and the exciting atmosphere created by RSSC Architecture.
