The Baierl Family YMCA is a new, two-story, 54,000 square-foot facility
that will replace the existing North Hills branch of the YMCA of Pittsburgh.
Located in Winterhaven Park, Franklin Park Borough, this new YMCA
branch will feature a six-lane indoor pool, full-size gymnasium, a Family
Wellness Center, group exercise studios, an indoor running/walking track,
and a central atrium that surrounds a 30-foot indoor climbing wall. A zero-entry
outdoor pool will include a water slide, play features and lap lanes as well.
Members will have access to separate locker rooms for adults and children,
as well as a Family/Special Needs locker room for parents with small children
or individuals with special requirements.
In addition to the fitness venues, the building will contain community
meeting rooms, a child-care center for facility users, and a multi-generational
Family Activity Center. The site has been designed to provide for outdoor
recreational and educational activities and to allow for future expansion of
the facility, including an outdoor aquatics center.
Completion is expected in the Spring of 2006.
